Certainly, I’m “hopping mad!” Mad at the evil one who has yet again fed another soul his lie of discontentment. It is everywhere….E.V.E.R.Y.W.H.E.R.E and it is rampant. You see, the enemy is on a rampage while he still has (limited) power on earth. His plan is to sow seeds of discontent into every marriage and family that he can possibly influence and distract. His outrageous lie: the grass is greener on the other side.
I can just hear him whisper into our vulnerable ear: “God didn’t really say you have to stay with your spouse until death” or “After all, God wants you to be happy and if you’re not, then here’s the back door!” or “You married so young and you’ve both changed; here’s someone who really understands you and knows your needs” and “Marriage is about passion and you don’t have it with him/her, you need to look over here at this person who’ll fulfill all your desires.” He (the enemy) wants us to believe there’s a big, wonderful world out there that we’re missing out on. He wants us to believe God is a “fun-sucker” and so his (enemy’s) intent is to stir frustration and unrest within our lives, homes and marriage. The evil one’s agenda is to have you exchange the truth for a lie, and he’s the master of it.
HOW does he do this, you ask? The enemy disillusions us through the t.v. shows we watch, music we listen to, people we hang around & books we read causing us to believe everyone is doing it. He masks himself in a seemingly innocent disguise. You won’t recognize him and his conniving ways unless you are rooted in God’s Word daily. This is how we become aware of all his evil plans and schemes. His (the enemy) whole plan is to steal, kill and destroy. Think I’m spinning a tale? Think again. Look it up for yourself in John 10:6-10:
Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. (The Message)
WHERE does he do this, you ask? In the workplace, ball field, in the home, on the internet and all over social media, in the gym, at church (of all places!) vacation, business travel,….you name the place, he’ll disguise himself there and lure you into a web you never, ever intended to get wrapped up in.
As I stated previously, this isn’t about judgement; the only one I’m calling out is the enemy. That’s why I’m so grateful for grounded, biblical counselors I know who prayerfully and lovingly guide someone back on track by helping them to see who their real enemy is. And, help us to realize that none of us is above reproach. No one is immune to the enemy’s deception.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12, NIV)
As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one… (Romans 3:10, NIV)
All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:12, NIV)
So much of our unhappiness and discontent can only be solved by taking our eyes off ourselves and put onto Christ. I am not preaching, judging nor casting any stones at anyone. For it is only by God’s grace…
